Dear All,
I went to Spelthorne Borough Council on Wednesday to put the case against this application on (5) strong planning issues with a human community level interest at its heart.
Although it was a bit rushed to be able to deliver 400+ words in three minutes, I thought with a strong statement that common sense and compassion for the residents of the most airport-blighted village in the Borough might prevail.

However it fell on deaf ears and here’s why:
1. Surrey Council Highways had already said they had no objections to the proposal and had no objections on road use.
2. This application already has unrestricted B8 usage.
3. It was recommended for “APPROVAL” by Spelthorne Borough Council Planning Officers.

The only people who could go against that would be the Councillors sitting on the Planning Committee and whether they were either cowardly or they couldn’t care what happens in or to Stanwell Moor – That’s up to you to decide?

Personally, I’m finding it hard to express my disappointment that Surrey County Council who oversee highways are instructing that borough, and with Spelthorne planning officers who recommended an application that will bring so much misery to our village.

The bottom line is when an application already has unrestricted B8 use and planning officers are asking the committee to pass it – When this is wrong on so many levels you should overturn it.

How they voted:
Chris Bateson – LIB DEM – Staines South – FOR
Laura Barker – LIB DEM – Staines – FOR
Lawrence Nicholls – LIB DEM – Halliford & Sunbury West – FOR
Kathy Grant – LIB DEM – Sunbury East – FOR
Matthew Lee – CON – Sunbury East – FOR
Paul Woodford – CON – Ashford Town – FOR
Med Buck – CON – Ashford North and Stanwell South – FOR
Katherine Rutherford – IND – Ashford Common – FOR
Daniel Geraci – IND – Laleham – FOR
Tony Burrell – LAB – Staines South – FOR

10 Cllrs voted to “PASS” this awful decision, and only one voted against it.

Sean Beatty – LAB – Ashford North and Stanwell South – AGAINST
Jon Button to his credit who called it in should also be acknowledged.

Personally, I’m disgusted that Surrey County Council who oversee highways are still pulling the strings, and they have shown (yet again) they care little for our village.
Disgusted, with Spelthorne Planning Officers who recommended this application should be accepted.
Disgusted, particularly those elected Cllrs in our (sister areas) of Staines and Ashford, who you would think have experience of what Stanwell Moor suffers from, as these (6) could have voted this down.

* To everyone, I’m sorry on this occasion when it came down to it that big business trumped danger issues, and the quality of people’s lives. – I will continue to fight for us at every opportunity.

Best regards,
Jim.
